Credit Counseling

Our priority at United Communications is not to just counsel you on your financial situation, but rather to resolve your debt entirely.  They promise of low APR's and no balance transfer fees, but there is usually a lot more at stake, and people don't read the fine print when applying for a credit card.

Did you know that it is at your credit card company's discretion when and if they raise your APR?  You can be the person that pays every month on time, but still see an increase in your APR.  This means you could be paying more towards the interest and little or nothing towards the principal balance.  And if you're like most of us, you probably don't even glance at your bill from month to month, you most likely look at the minimum balance due and cringe as you sign your check.

The funniest part is, even when you're deep in debt, almost daily new credit card offers arrive in the mail.  The worst part about it is when people juggle their balances from one card to another.  Did you start out wading in the pool, and now find yourself drowning in debt?  Debt doesn't have to be a way of life.

Why Debt Settlement?

Debt Settlement Programs...

Needless to say, credit card debt is an overwhelmingly! The use of credit cards has more than tripled in recent years, with more and more individuals obtaining access to credit accounts and going into debt. Credit card companies generally make it very easy today for almost anyone to get a credit card by sending offers of "pre-approved" credit. Even high school students receive offers such as these in the mail or online.

While credit cards can be very handy and convenient, they're also a source of financial debt for the many people that overuse them. With the economy as it is today, people often rely on credit cards to make daily purchases, not realizing (or simply disregarding) the high interest rates they're paying and their escalating balance amounts. Before long, they're up to their necks in credit card debt. But instead of discontinuing that mode of spending, and occurring debt they can not afford, they often just apply for and obtain other credit cards in an attempt to bail themselves out. The predictable result is thousands of dollars of accumulated personal debt.

The next predictable result is seemingly never-ending rash of phone calls from credit card companies demanding overdue payments, which can leave you feeling as though you have no place to turn and that you'll never escape the hole you're in. Fortunately, however, you can seek the assistance of a debt settlement agency to help you get out of that debt. A debt settlement company will sit down with you and go over your finances – both income and expenses – to determine if there's a legitimate reason why you can't pay your credit card debt. Then they'll contact the credit card companies and try to work out a payment plan that will be good for both parties. Although you may run into difficulties with some card companies, most of them should be willing to help when they see that you sincerely want to pay your debts, have enrolled in a debt settlement program and are just having difficulty meeting your financial obligations.

Credit card companies don't enjoy taking people to court. It's a lot of extra time and expense for them, so they'll typically work with you, especially when you've procured the services of a debt settlement agency for help. They may offer you a lower monthly payment, which is often all a person may need to help them get back on their financial feet. Obviously, you won't be able to use the particular credit cards while you're enrolled in a debt settlement program, but most people generally don't want to use them again after having to obtain outside help in paying off their debt.

If you're very deep in credit card debt and don't see any changes to your financial situation in the near future, the debt settlement agency may offer the card issuer a settlement offer on your behalf. For instance, if you owe $1,000, they may offer the credit card company $350 to 'wipe the slate clean.' Many times the card companies will accept these offers to avoid the time and headache of trying to get the money from you themselves.
